Genesis 3:8-24
From the Start - Part 9

Genesis 3:8–24 stands as one of the most significant turning points in the biblical story. In this sermon, Pastor Drew Webb explores how the curse pronounced in the Garden of Eden reshaped the entire human experience. The serpent is condemned to humiliation, the woman to pain and relational tension, and the man to struggle and toil as creation itself strains under the weight of sin. What was once harmonious now bears the marks of brokenness.

Yet even within these judgments, God extends surprising mercy. Pastor Webb highlights how God preserves humanity, provides a covering through sacrifice, and announces the first promise of a Redeemer. Genesis 3:15, often called the Protoevangelion, reveals the earliest proclamation of the Gospel — the promise that an offspring of the woman will one day crush the serpent’s head. This points directly to Jesus Christ, whose victory over sin and death restores what the fall has shattered.

This sermon invites listeners to reflect deeply on the seriousness of sin and the incredible hope offered in God’s redemptive plan. It demonstrates that the Good News did not begin in the New Testament but in the earliest chapters of Scripture. As we confront the realities of our broken world, we are reminded that God’s promise of restoration is sure, and His plan for redemption has been unfolding from the very beginning.
