Mark 10:35-45
True Greatness

This message explores Jesus’ radically different definition of greatness. In a culture driven by self-promotion, influence, and personal success, Jesus confronts worldly ambition and calls His followers to humility, sacrifice, and servanthood.

We examine the request made by James and John as they sought positions of honor in Christ’s kingdom. Their desire for recognition revealed pride and selfish ambition that mirrored the values of the world. Jesus used this moment as a teaching opportunity to show that greatness in the Kingdom of God is not found in power, authority, or status, but in serving others faithfully and humbly.

Pastor Drew Webb also highlights Jesus Christ as the ultimate example of servanthood. Mark 10:45 reveals the heart of the Gospel: the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. Through His sacrificial death and resurrection, Jesus paid the price for sin and freed believers to live lives marked by humility, obedience, and love for others.

This biblical teaching challenges Christians to reject the world’s definition of greatness and instead pursue Kingdom greatness through faithful service, Christlike humility, and Gospel-centered living.
